The Sony Cybershot DSC H20 is one of a number of digital cameras launched in the spring of 2009 offering some extra zoom inside a relatively compact body. You only need to look back about two years to see that the 10x optical zoom Sony has built into the Cybershot DSC H20 was about the maximum you could find on any digital camera. Now that the most advanced models can offer up to 24x zoom a gap has opened in the market. This is being filled by these smaller cameras offering what was not so long ago considered to be maximum zoom.
When it comes to the zoom available you have extra options with the Cybershot DSC H20. If you are planning to make smaller prints, you can reduce the amount of megapixels you are shooting at from the maximum 10. This allows additional zoom to become available. At its smallest resolution up to 57x zoom becomes available to you. On top of this you can also opt to buy conversion lenses to increase the telephoto or wide angle capacity of the lens. The lens comes with a 58mm thread for fitting a conversion lens via a lens adapter or for using filters.

As I mentioned above there have been a number of advances in the last two years when it comes to length of lens. This is the same with video modes. The Cybershot DSC H20 is capable of shooting High Definition movies. One area where this camera has the edge over the majority of other digital cameras is that it is able to record sound in stereo. You can also apply zoom while you are shooting movies.
Sony has included image stabilisation, face detection and a smile shutter. These three features are almost commonplace on digital cameras, especially with this length of lens. Also included is a 3 inch LCD screen, although you need to make do without a viewfinder.
When it comes to picture quality I had few complaints. The extra physical size of the lens found on this type of camera tends to make picture quality more standard and there is little to choose between different cameras. The Cybershot DSC H20 is able to handle most photo opportunities well and it can also take a good macro shot for close up subjects. Compared to other brands I felt the colours were a little subtler. How strong you like the colour to be in a photograph is something of a matter of taste, but this does help to create a difference between the cameras in this niche.
The cameras all look a little different to each other as well. I like the design of this camera. It is certainly compact and the unfussy style with a matt black finish suggests a well made camera with a touch of quality.
Cameras like the Sony Cybershot DSC H20 are often marketed as good choices for travel and holiday. This is because you get the extra lens power, but there is no large, bulky camera to lug around with you. So if you are planning a holiday for the summer of 2009 take a close look at this camera.

In terms of connectivity, the T900 has a composite a/v output, a USB port and a HDMI port.
Design: Like many Sony products, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T900 has a gorgeous design. It is very thin, measuring as just 3.7 x 0.6 x 2.3 inches in dimensions. On the front, it has a slide-panel lens cover. When you slide it down, the lens, flash and stereo microphones are revealed. The front panel has a sort of metal finish that gives it an elegant look. Features & Performance: The spacious 3.5-inch touch-screen was very responsive and you can choose to make your menu selections with your fingertips or the small stylus pen that comes with it. The photo quality is generally good (with very good color and exposure) but not as good as what you would expect from a camera of this price. Its shot to shot time is also around 1.4 seconds.

As HD (720p) video recording in compact cameras has become more widespread, the Sony Cybershot DSC-T500 Digital Camera still offers one of the best video quality in an ultra-compact camera to date. The camera comes in a mostly metal body. The front cover slides down to reveal the optically stabilized lens (5x f3.5-4.4 33-165mm-equivalent) and stereo microphone. The whole body measures 3.9 inches wide by 2.4 inches high by 0.8 inch deep, but the little camera feels substantial with a weight of 6.2 ounces. The 3.5-inch touch-screen LCD is much larger than average ultra-compact screens with the physical controls placed on the top.
The Sony Cybershot DSC-T500's touch screen controls are fairly responsive and provide access to the onscreen menus. The three onscreen menus along with the handful of controls that are accessible directly from the screen include flash, macro, timer, and resolution. Navigating the camera settings is easy enough. The Home menu gives access to all commonly used features. The Menu screen gives access context-sensitive options. For still photos you get a choice of Auto, Scene Selection and Program Auto (that gives control over color, white balance, burst, flash level, and bracketing modes. For recording videos, there are two shooting options: High Sensitivity and Auto mode. Both these modes offer controls for white balance, focus, and exposure compensation, but in Auto you also get sepia and black-and-white color options as well as the ability to change between multi-point and center metering.
Photos are sharp and detailed, presenting good color with white balance at ISO 80 and ISO 100. Video quality is quite impressive on the Sony Cybershot DSC-T500 at least in comparison to most compact cameras. Video taken outdoors in good lighting had little to no noticeable noise with good color and exposure. Videos taken indoors and in low-light situations on the other hand result in visible noise but this is not too distracting unless it's very dim. In addition, you get full use of the 5x optical zoom during recording. A multi-output dock is included, with HDMI connections.
Shutter lag is good at 0.5 second in bright conditions and 0.7 in dim lighting conditions. The camera has a burst speed of 1.5fps. The time taken between turning on the camera and taking the first shot is 2.3 seconds. The shot-to-shot time in good lighting conditions is 2.7 seconds and the use of flash increases it to about 3.5 seconds.
